Chip Canister as Gift Container

You've dug the last piece of chip from the canister. You automatically stand up and head for the garbage bin. Wait! That canister can outlive its usefulness after being an "empty" keeper of crunchy chips. Any idea? Here's mine.

You will need:

  • Chip canister (e.g. pringles, piknik)
  • Handmade paper or gift wrapper
  • Cardboard (optional)
  • Ribbon/paper twine
  • Paint brush
  • White glue
  • Glue gun
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors

What to do:
  • Wash the canister's interior with soap to remove oil and other residue. Do not soak in water if canister is made of cardboard. Dry canister.
  • Measure the canister's interior circumference and height from below the rim. Cut the handmade paper/wrapper, adding 1/8 of an inch to the circumference to overlap the other end when pasted.
  • Brush white glue evenly over the cut paper/wrapper and paste it on the canister. Set aside.
  • Measure the height and circumference of the canister cover. Cut a strip of cardboard in that dimension and paste it to the extra paper/wrapper. Cut the strip again and paste the underside to the circumference of the canister cover. Set aside. Cut a square piece of cardboard bigger than cover. Glue it on extra paper/wrapper and trace cover on it. Cut the circle and paste it to the top surface of the cover using glue gun.

Suggested Style

There you have it! A chip canister turned into a personalized gift container. Stuff it with a rolled towel, socks, shirt, blouses, shorts, etc. Tie a few bows or ribbon/paper twine and presto -- a personalized for all occasions present.
