Health Benefits of Queen Mangosteen

Mangosteen is an evergreen tree that has leathery leaves and a round, purple or reddish-brown fruit that is smaller than a tennis ball. The bitter rind is inedible, and the juicy pulp fruit has about four to eight segment. Some says mangosteen taste ranges from strawberry, peach, vanilla ice cream with a very slight sourness. Others say it is a mix between lychee and grapes or pear and strawberry.

Scientists have found the juice from the thick and rough rind of mangosteen to contain xanthones -- biologically active, natural chemical substances that have extremely potent antioxidants that can fight inflammation, bacteria, fungus infection, allergies, and even cancer. The greatest discovery to date is that xanthones can inhibit the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL).

Several medical practitioners in the Unites States and South Asian countries use mangosteen juice as the first line of therapy for many health conditions. Dr. Sam Walters, who has been formulating products for pharmaceutical companies and other nutritional products in the United States, is using mangosteen juice, claiming that its antioxidants are the keys to treating diseases in the future.

In medicine, there must be a balance between conventional and natural methods. Dr. J. Frederic Templeman, a practicing physician in California, USA, has seen favorable food - and drug-interaction of mangosteen juice with medications.

Mangosteen juice should not be taken as medication but as a food supplement to enhance and strengthen the immune system of the body. Mangosteen juice is now commercially available in health food stores. Suggested intake is 1-2 oz, three times daily for known medical ailments. For preventive dose, take 1 oz, two times daily.
